“La Maestà”, home to the Lazzeri family for generations, is situated on a hillside between Castiglion Fiorentino and Cortona, and enjoys breathtaking views over the tranquil and historic Valdichiana Valley.
This is the heart of central and south eastern Tuscany, and Umbria is just around the corner. The region is famous for its hill top towns, history, art, architecture, cuisine and the Nobile wines. Cortona was the setting for the book and film Under The Tuscan Sun.
At “La Maestà”, you are within an hour or so’s drive of the major centres of the region: Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Pienza, Montepulciano, Assisi, Perugia, Lago Trasimeno, Orvietto, and Gubbio. You could spend weeks exploring the area and only scratch the surface. Why not plan a week or two exploring this region?
On the other hand, if you are looking for a few days of Tuscan tranquillity within your busy travel itinerary, “La Maestà” is the place. Take a break, enjoy a more intimate, off-the beaten-track Tuscany: the views, the blazing sunsets, the pool, the local restaurants, the perpetual birdsong, the walks through the olive groves.
While the best way to see Tuscany is by car, “La Maestà” is well serviced by a bus that can quickly take you to Camucia/Cortona to the South, or Castiglion Firentino to the north. From these centres, train and bus services can take you on to all the local cities and attractions.
